Position Overview

• We have a new doctor joining, and we are in the process of revamping the practice!

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Team Development
  • Serve as a positive role model and leader for veterinary technicians, assistants, and other support staff.
  • Mentor and support lower-level team members by demonstrating appropriate work habits, patient-care standards, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new veterinary technicians and support staff.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members regarding technical skills, hospital procedures, patient handling, and workflow.
  • Encourage accountability, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
  • Recognize team members who demonstrate exceptional performance and bring concerns regarding performance or training needs to hospital leadership.
  • Help identify opportunities for staff development and continued education.
• Patient Care & Technical Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, compassionate care to veterinary patients before, during, and after ophthalmic procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong technical veterinary skills and serve as a resource to other technicians.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, procedures, anesthesia, surgery, and patient monitoring as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate patient monitoring and ensure accurate documentation of medical records.
  • Assist with ophthalmology-specific procedures and equipment after appropriate training.
  • Ensure proper handling, preparation, cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of medical and ophthalmic equipment.
  • Monitor hospitalized and recovering patients and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the veterinarian.
  • Maintain appropriate standards for patient safety, infection control, and treatment protocols.
  • Assist with efficient patient flow and support the medical team during busy periods.
• Communication & Workplace Culture
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with doctors, technicians, assistants, CSRs, leadership, clients, and coworkers.
  • Promote a collaborative and respectful workplace environment.
  • Identify workplace conflicts, communication concerns, or team issues and seek assistance from hospital leadership when appropriate.
  • Avoid participating in gossip, negativity, or workplace behaviors that negatively impact team morale.
  • Help facilitate solutions to workplace concerns while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Communicate concerns to leadership promptly rather than allowing issues to negatively affect patient care or team performance.
  • Support hospital leadership in implementing policies, procedures, and operational improvements.
• Hospital Operations
  • Work closely with hospital leadership to identify workflow inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist leadership with maintaining appropriate staffing, workflow, and technician coverage.
  • Help ensure hospital policies and protocols are consistently followed.
  • Assist with inventory management, equipment maintenance, controlled substance procedures, and supply organization as assigned.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
  • Assist leadership with quality assurance and compliance initiatives.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for the technician team when leadership is unavailable, while recognizing that the Lead Technician does not replace hospital management.

Qualifications (Required)

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
• Previous professional experience as a veterinary technician in a veterinary hospital setting.
• Strong technical veterinary technician skills and knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to safely handle and care for veterinary patients.
• Experience assisting with anesthesia, surgery, diagnostics, patient monitoring, and treatment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to mentor, train, and provide constructive guidance to less-experienced team members.
• Ability to remain professional and composed in a fast-paced specialty environment.
• Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and strong work ethic.
• Ability to recognize workplace concerns and appropriately escalate issues to hospital leadership.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

• Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) or CVT/LVT/RVT credential
• Specialty or emergency veterinary experience.
• Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
• Ophthalmology experience or a strong interest in veterinary ophthalmology.
• Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical procedures.
• Experience training or onboarding veterinary technicians and assistants.

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday and one Saturday (day shift)
